Triathlon Grand Villerupt 54
TGV54 is a group of adults and children who participate in Triathlons. They are located in Villerupt, in the region of Lorraine, along the France / Luxembourg border.
My mother, my sister, Katie, and I were invited to Villerupt, France, to present 2 Blade Chairs to TGV54. The event took place at the City Hall of Villerupt. The Mayor of Villerupt- Monsieur Alain Casoni, Representatives of the Lion’s Club, Sponsors, members of TGV54, and local media were all present for the event.
Monsieur Casoni, gave a sincere speech, recounting the tragedy that took place in Paris and stressing that it is more important than ever that we work together and do what we can to help one another. I was honored to follow his powerful speech with a speech of my own (en Francais!) and tell everyone who we are at Team Hoyt Running Chairs (read speech below- in English and French).
I was proud to introduce my sister, Katie Sotar (owner of K.Sew), and show off her talent and hard work of sewing all the cushions, travel bags, and accessories for the chair. Also, to introduce my mother, who has taught both of us everything we know; from sewing, building wheels, and wrapping handle bars, to being our role model and encouraging us to pursue our dreams as entrepreneurs.

*A few members of TGV54 are fundraising to plan a trip and travel to Massachusetts to visit us and compete with Rick Hoyt and Bryan Lyons at the Patriot Half Triathlon in June 2016.
Hello, My name is Anna Sotar, I am here representing Team Hoyt Running Chairs. It is a pleasure to be here today and thank you all for coming. I have with me, my mother and my sister Katie. We are proud to be here to strengthen our collaboration with Triathlon Grand Villerupt.
Team Hoyt started in 1977 when Rick Hoyt asked his father Dick Hoyt to push him in a local 5K. Rick Hoyt was born with spastic cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. Together the father and son team have competed in over 1000 races including marathons, and triathlons.
Michael DiDonato, whose family owns Southbidge Tool and Manufacturing, met Dick Hoyt and offered to fix their specially made running chair. Together the two started Team Hoyt Running Chairs and began building running chairs for other teams and families.
My father Nick Sotar, a retired bicycle shop owner, presented Michael DiDonato with a new design for the running chair called The Blade. This chair has been in production for just 1 year now. My sister does all the sewing for the chairs including cushions, travel bags, and comfort options for the rider. I build the bicycle wheels, complete the finishing touches on each chair, package them, and handle international sales. My mother has taught us everything we know from sewing to building wheels.
I am proud to go to work every single day and help promote the global movement of inclusion. Inclusion is about friendship and love. It is incredible to see strangers come together and motivate each other. With our chairs, we want everyone to experience the thrill of a race and show that together we can accomplish more.

Bonsoir je m’appelle Anna Sotar et je représente ce soir la société Team Hoyt Running Chairs.C’est un immense plaisir que d’être parmi vous ce soir avec ma mère ainsi que ma Sœur Katie et je remercie tout le monde ici et plus particulièrement le TGV54 et son président Monsieur Gruyer. Nous sommes très fières d’être ici pour renforcer notre collaboration et notre partenariat avec ce club de triathlon.
L’histoire de la Team Hoyt a démarré en 1977 quand Rick Hoyt a demandé à son père Dick de l’accompagner sur une petite course locale de 5 kilomètres.Rick Hoyt est né avec une paralysie cérébrale spastique qui le confine depuis sa naissance dans une chaise roulante. L’amour et la complicité entre ce père et ce fils les ont conduit a participé à plus de 1000 courses incluant marathons, triathlons et autres Ironman.
Michael DiDonato, dont la famille possède la société Southbidge Tool and Manufacturing, a fait la connaissance de Dick et a tout de suite eu un coup de cœur pour cette relation unique. Il leur a proposé de construire la première chaise spécialement dédiée à leur aventure. Ensemble ils ont créé la Team Hoyt Running Chairs et ont commencé à construire des chaises sportives pour d’autres familles et d’autres équipes.
Mon père Nick Sotar, propriétaire d’un magasin de cycles à la retraite, a présenté à Michael DiDonato un nouveau design pour la chaise qu’il a appelé la Blade (en français « la lame »).Cette chaise est produite depuis 1 an seulement.Ma soeur gère toute la partie tissu de la chaise à savoir les coussins, le sac de transport ainsi que toutes les options de confort pour les deux athlètes.Je gère la fabrication des roues, les dernières retouches sur chaque chaise conçue, les emballe et m’occupe également de la commercialisation internationale.
Je suis très fière et très enthousiaste chaque jour en allant travailler car je participe à un formidable projet d’insertion des personnes en situation de handicap que nous souhaitons mondialiser. Parler d’insertion, c’est avant tout parler d’amitié et d’amour. Il est incroyable et si réjouissant de voir des personnes qui ne se connaissent pas au départ et qui se motivent mutuellement à faire pas après pas un mètre de plus vers un objectif commun. Avec notre chaise nous voulons que chacun puisse ressentir ce frisson et cette adrénaline que seule la course en équipe peut créer et montrer avec le TGV54 qu’ensemble nous pouvons accomplir des miracles.
